Humanistic Counselling

"Counselling can be the opportunity to think the unthinkable and speak the unspeakable without the fear of what others might think."

What is it?

The aim of counselling is to give your child the space to explore their feelings and concerns in a safe environment; discover what your core issues might be and clarify ways of resolving these and moving towards a greater sense of well-being.

Counselling also offers the chance to explore their present and past experiences and how they may be affecting their life now. Although we can't change what has past, reflecting on their issues and feelings can help them to feel more sense of control in the present and gain new coping skills for the future.

How does it work?

Counselling is a two way, collaborative process that involves the development of a unique, confidential relationship that enables your child or teenager to arrive at their own informed decisions and find their own answers.

Most of us experience emotional distress or difficulties at some time in our lives, and may find it hard to cope.  Making the decision to see a counsellor can help your child to assess the situation from a different perspective and find new ways to cope and find a more positive way forward.

How can it help me or my child?

Change in any form can be stressful such as a bereavement or starting a new school, and your child may need to find it difficult to adjust to.  Alternatively, they may be having ongoing problems with issues such as bullying or low self esteem that you yourself are struggling to resolve for them.  Although parents and caregivers want to be there to support their children, it is often easier for them to talk to someone outside their close circle of friends and family.

It is important therefore, to choose a counsellor that they feel comfortable with.  That is why Alexandra Bacon offers her clients a free initial 20 minute consultation prior to therapy to give you the opportunity to decide for yourself. As an experienced therapy Professional, Alexandra brings an understanding and experience of child behaviour as well as empathy and sensitivity to child and/ or parent within the sessions.  Read her testimonials for more information.
